St. Patrick’s Episcopal Day School is a private elementary and middle school serving students age 4 through grade 8 in Thousand Oaks, CA

Today in Mrs. Frank's 7th Grade Science class, stu Today in Mrs. Frank's 7th Grade Science class, students tackled a real-world environmental challenge: finding sustainable locations to grow oil palm trees without harming critical wildlife habitats. After learning how palm oil—found in many everyday products like candy bars—threatens rainforests and species such as the orangutan, students took on the role of environmental scientists.

Using climate, precipitation, and rainforest location maps, they identified regions around the globe with ideal growing conditions (sunlight, temperature, water) that don’t overlap with vulnerable ecosystems. By layering data and transferring it to their own blank maps, they engaged in a hands-on analysis of sustainable land use and conservation.

Our third graders are diving into civics! They've Our third graders are diving into civics! They've been learning all about the three branches of government—Legislative, Executive, and Judicial—and the specific duties and important roles each one plays.

Yesterday, they began creating trioramas, which are 3D triangular dioramas that bring each branch to life through artwork, facts, and creativity. These will be completed by Friday and proudly displayed in the third grade classroom. Stop by and take a look at their amazing work in action!
First grade recently received a special delivery—pink ladybug eggs! The eggs have hatched, and the ladybugs are now in the larvae stage, growing and changing each day in the classroom.

Soon, they will enter the pupa stage, and before long, emerge as adult pink ladybugs. Once fully developed, the ladybugs will be released into the first grade vegetable planter boxes, where students have been growing a variety of vegetables and native wildflowers.

This hands-on experience is part of first grade’s organic gardening practice, teaching students how to care for plants using natural methods to manage pests—no chemicals needed!
Today, our second graders visited The Gentle Barn Today, our second graders visited The Gentle Barn in Santa Clarita—a sanctuary that rescues and rehabilitates abused farm animals and connects them with people in need of healing. As part of their year long Service Project with the Humane Society, this visit expanded their understanding of compassion and care of animals.

They learned that it’s not just cats and dogs who need our help—horses, cows, pigs, goats, and turkeys do too. And just as we care for animals, animals can care for us in return. With every gentle nuzzle and quiet moment, our students saw firsthand how love and kindness go both ways.

Birds, birds, birds! Our Kindergarten Readiness s Birds, birds, birds!

Our Kindergarten Readiness students have been soaring through a month-long bird study—learning all about birds of prey, songbirds, and waterfowl. They've explored habitats, diets, and what makes each type of bird unique.

Today, they took their knowledge into the field (a.k.a. our beautiful campus) on a bird-watching adventure! Armed with homemade binoculars (thank you, toilet paper rolls) and bird-watching journals, they drew pictures and recorded their feathered finds.

It was a day full of discovery, creativity, and lots of excited pointing to the sky.

**Disclaimer: The birds featured in this video may or may not have actually been spotted. 😉
🌍💚 Today we celebrated Earth Day (a week lat 🌍💚 Today we celebrated Earth Day (a week late due to Easter break) with a beautiful outdoor chapel ceremony led by Reverend Sarah. She reminded us of the goodness of God’s creation — including ourselves — and the importance of giving thanks for the Earth and all it provides. 🌱💦♻️

We reflected on how we can care for our planet by recycling, conserving water and electricity, and reducing waste. Taking care of our environment is another way to be kind to one another. May we continue to keep the Earth green and full of life for generations to come.

What a day! Today we held our annual Jog-A-Thon at What a day! Today we held our annual Jog-A-Thon at beautiful Old Meadows Park—and our students ran their hearts out!
This year’s Jog-A-Thon raised funds in honor of beloved Mrs. Leslie Miller to benefit the Lung Research Foundation, as well as exciting campus upgrades: new basketball standards, a FloWater dispenser for England Hall, a fresh set of iPads for grades 3–5, AV improvements to our amphitheater, and enhanced campus safety and security.
A HUGE thank you to our amazing Committee Lead Lizzie Hale and the incredible Jog-A-Thon Committee: Cathy Boys, Tiffany Chivaroli, Aly Flores, Chris Hale, Nicole Khellher, Kaitlin Lunkenheimer, Kraig Lunkenheimer, Alison Manger, and Juanita Svanda.
Thank you to Coach Russell for keeping our kids moving and motivated. And of course, endless gratitude to all the parent volunteers who helped make today possible—setting up, counting laps, passing out water, serving Kona Ice, and taking it all down. We couldn’t have done it without you!
