Our fifth grade class hosted a special assembly on November 11th to honor veterans in our community. The students spoke about the history and importance of Veteran’s Day and also shared their service learning experiences at FOR THE TROOPS where they wrote letters to soldiers serving abroad and made care packages for them. Geoff Fraser, a former marine, spoke to the school about the bond that is shared among all veterans and how important receiving care packages and letters from home was to him and his fellow soldiers. All veterans who attended the service were asked to come forward, and the fifth graders pinned each with a bright red poppy. At the end of the assembly, each student in the school personally thanked and shook the hands of the veterans who attended. On this very important day, the St. Patrick’s School expressed its gratitude and appreciation to all who served or continue to serve.
